Austin, Texas · Original rock
Raw. Loud. Relentless. Four players and original songs, built on the energy of 90s alternative rock and turned up until the room feels it.
01 / The band
Forged in Austin, the live music capital of the world.

The Rik Avalos Band channels the unfiltered energy of 90s alternative rock: the darkness of Alice in Chains, the haunting depth of Jeff Buckley, the atmospheric weight of Radiohead. Filtered through Austin's grit, it is given new life on stage.
Equal parts catharsis and craft. No filler, no pretense. Just the music, turned up until the room feels it.
02 / Look around
Four EPs and five singles, recorded at 512 Studios in Austin. Listen on Spotify and Apple Music.
Live video from Hanover's Draught Haus and Buck's Backyard, and photos from the stage and the studio.
The lineup, the music and the production on one page, as a PDF.

Lead vocals / Guitar

Lead guitar
In Austin's music scene since 1988, with the Rave and Slippery Fish. Plays with restraint and feel, always in service of the song. By his own account, in 1995 he put the first live music internet stream from Austin on the air from 6th Street.

Bass
Houston-born and Austin-claimed. Came to Austin in 1994 with Mudshow, toured 26 states with 7 Stones, and spent five years with Traces Left. Writes, plays bass and sings.

Drums
Played gospel at nine and country at twelve, won the West Texas Battle of the Bands with his own band at twenty, and has been in Austin since 1987. He has played with Blue Dog, Bad Rooster and Stranger Angels.
04 / Where the songs come from
Rik started the band in Austin and was the only founder who stayed. A seven-night residency at the 6th Street Country Club made them tight. They worked the whole Texas circuit, played Hawaii in 1996 and went north to Anchorage, Alaska twice.
Rik's first original project, on bass: the Black Crowes meeting Soundgarden. Headlined Steamboat, opened big shows at Antone's, and held residencies at the Black Cat and the White Rabbit. In 1997 they made an official video for "Faded."
Rik and Joe Cieplinski wrote together for nine years and released three EPs: Reconciliation, Introspection and Malefaction. They are still streaming everywhere.
The band came together at Austin's 512 Studios with producer Omar Vallejo. It plays Central Texas rooms such as Hanover's Draught Haus in Pflugerville and Buck's Backyard in Buda, and keeps writing.
05 / Live
Eight shows so far in 2026. New dates are being booked now.
